FEED MY LAMBS PRIVATE PRIMARY SCHOOL
HISTORY OF FEED MY LAMBS
During Mrs Alleweya Goss' 28 teaching tenure (8 years in high school), she noticed that children were not doing well in subjects like mathematics, science and physics. Most of all she noticed the moral decay of the youth in high schools (substance abuse etc.). This encouraged her that something had to be done.
After much research, she realised it was best to impact the little ones.
"It's better to build children than to repair men."
She then resigned from the mainstream school system and opened a Christian Crèche and pre-School.
With all the experience and knowledge she acquired from her community work (see community section) and training received from CEF America (Child Evangelism and Fellowship) (see community section) a programme was formed (mathematics and science concepts) to give children a real head start in life and also to build character.
Today, 26 years later, she has four crèches and pre-schools (500 children) and in 1997 she started a privately owned Christian School educating approximately 600 children per annum.
Feed My Lambs Private Primary School has been extremely successful in delivering results in the community.
Grade R commences with a reading programme and this has proven to be extremely successful as learners are equipped with the basics of reading once they start their schooling.
Because of this reading programme, little Thando Dlamini was discovered who could read any article at age 4 (refer to Sunday Times newspaper article August 2016).
Apart from its academic success the school is quite involved in community work where concerts for the aged are held, with a free meal, giving gifts to the elderly, clean-up programmes around the community, supporting the school Sleep-out event and a toy drive for underprivileged children.
The 3, 4 and 5 year olds are encouraged to memorise passages of work and this gives them a head start to their learning in formal school. Many of our learners have excelled in the final year of school, receiving distinctions, all attributable to the sound foundations they had at FML. The school pays a lot of attention to reading and not one learner may exit the school without having a strong reading ability.
